A lakeside MTB event in two distances

MTB-Vättern is an entry-level event with two distances, 25 and 50 km, suitable for both new and experienced mountain bikers. The course is relatively easy to ride and offers great variety, with gravel roads, trails, hills, and scenic views along Göta Canal and Lake Vättern.

From the year you turn 8. Children are recommended to ride MTB-Vättern 25 km accompanied by a parent or adult.

Entry fee

The earlier you register, the lower the fee.

Period 1 (July 1, 2025 – January 14, 2026)
15 years and older: SEK 710
Ages 8–14: SEK 300

Period 2 (January 15 – March 17)
15 years and older: SEK 800
Ages 8–14: SEK 325

Period 3 (March 18 – June 4)
15 years and older: SEK 850
Ages 8–14: SEK 400

On-site registration (in Motala)
15 years and older: SEK 900
Ages 8–14: SEK 500

Cut-off times

The finish line closes at 22:00. There is also a cut-off time where the long and short distance divide. If you are riding the longer event you must have passed this point no later than: 20:15. Failure to do so will result in you being invited to continue along the shorter distance.

Special participant needs

The goal is for the events to be accessible to as many people as possible. If you need to participate with a special bike and/or together with a companion rider, you are warmly welcome to contact the Vätternrundan office in connection with your registration.

Please briefly describe your needs so that an individual assessment can be made to create the best possible conditions for your participation. The starting point is always the individual’s experience, and solutions are developed in dialogue when needed. In some cases, additional information may be required.

Pace groups – this applies to MTB-Vättern 50 km

MTB-Vättern 50 km uses self-seeded pace groups. The grouping ensures that you start with riders at a similar pace, reducing congestion and overtaking, and contributing to a safer and more enjoyable experience for everyone.

When registering via Vätternrundan’s My pages, you choose the pace group that best matches your level and riding profile. The seeding is self-assessed, meaning you evaluate your own ability.

Advanced (estimted race time 1.45-2.10 h)
Your ability: Suits you that are used to be in the front of the race and who are in a very good physical shape and is a technically skilled mountainbike cyclist with extensive experience in cycling in the terrain.

Tough (estimated race time 2.10-2.30 h)
Your ability: Suits you that are holding a high speed, in both open parts and more technical parts of the course.

Medium (estimated race time 2.30-3 h)
Your ability: Suits you that exercise regularly and is used to hold an accurate speed both in the open parts and more technical parts of the course.

Moderate (estimated race time 3 h+)
Your ability: Suits you that recently discovered the charm with MTB and/or would like to bike in a smoother speed.

Get ready for the Canyon Power Climb – great prizes up for grabs

MTB-Vättern is a recreational ride, but together with our friends at Canyon, we’ve added a short competitive segment for everyone riding MTB-Vättern 50 km.

How the competition works
The challenge is to ride as fast as possible up the course’s most legendary climb. Your time is recorded both at the bottom and at the top of the climb. The fastest woman and man to reach the top will each win a pair of new MTB shoes, the Canyon Tempr CFR Off-Road (value SEK 3,999).
