Tjejvättern celebrated 20 years with cake
Almost 7000 women were registered for Tjejvättern 2010, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. 5,666 showed up at the start. Despite the dismal weather and strong winds 5,511 brave souls took themselves all the way around the 100 km long course.
Sabotage along 10 km of the course added to the difficult conditions the women had to face. Carpet nails had been strewn across the road causing over 500 punctures. The course officials and helpful residents along the course were quick to help the cyclists.
“I am very proud of how the cyclists and the course officials handled the situation. The rest stops reported that the cyclists were in generally high spirits despite the weather and long queues for cycle repairs” said Vätternrundan’s General Manager Eva-Lena Frick.
The women who had cycled every Tjejvättern since the event began were invited to the City Park after the event, where they were celebrated with cake.
Halvvättern 2010 offered beautiful weather
After the stormy events on Saturday cyclists were apprehensive about Halvvättern. Sunday morning began with no winds and sunshine, which sent a calming message. 4012 were registered for the event and 3203 started. The course had been swept extra carefully after the sabotage the day before, thus reducing the amount of punctures significantly. The nice weather and beautiful course was very appreciated. 3152 completed the 150 km event.
